I prefer the original location to eat when I just don't have an appetite which happens often. Good food and I've loved eating there since the 80s
Delicious food for amazing prices
Had a spicy tofu taco and black bean taco with chips & guac.Great bang for your buck and love the vegetarian options, thanks!
Very friendly staff, delicious food, and an awesome atmosphere. It never was very crowded in the few times I have gone, and food came quite quickly.
Good food and quick/friendly service.
We have loved this place. Not quite sure what it is about the place but we love it. Food is always awesome and we have been eating there on our date nights for over 10 years. Cheers .
Food is amazing and a great value. I love going there, particularly on a game day. The bathrooms are disgusting, and when it's crowded in there, that's annoying. But, other than that, Taco Stand rocks.
Love the Downtown location, all T-stands are great but being able to order a drink to go with your food is fantastic
Burritos were large and very tasty. A good value.
Good food and staff
Great place to grab a bite/drink before the game!
I thought the place was nice enough. The food was decent, but I have had tastier nachos at many other places. It is good if you just want lunch, but it isn't special.
Always worth the trip. Taco Stand is fresh and delicious. I have been eating here since 1980 and they never disappoint. Excellent food at value prices.
Great space fore a drink. I did not purchase any food during this visit.
Two things bother me about this place... The fact that they've been falsely voted "Best meal for a deal" in Athens for the last five years? And the XXX-HOT sauce is so weak I would gladly rub it in my eyes.. Don't expect a meal under $10 and bring your own hot sauce, or better yet, just go to Sr. Sol, Cali N Tito's, Agua Linda, or Tlaloc and get MUCH better food for the same price..
It's certainly better than Taco Bell, and if you want a late night downtown snack then it's a solid, cheap option. But Moe's is better, and there are plenty of better places to eat in Athens. I think they could raise their game a bit, truth be told.
Old and familiar, but still good. Spinach quesadilla, in particular, was delicious. Also, AC was really working well on a 90+ day.
Love. Favorite place ever. Wish I could give them 6 stars.
I'm a New Englander, born and raised. Went down to Athens for a small getaway to visit close friends who'd moved on down south after graduation, as well as some family. Went out for a night, and found this little number. The staff was OUTSTANDING. Hard workers. Dark haired lady was very attentive, and pleasant to be around. One of the best bartenders I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. Atmosphere was welcoming, and as I'm generally a reserved man, I was surprised to find myself immediately at ease. Went back a second time, and was taken care of by a gentleman with awesome hair and an amazing mustache.Great people, great food. I'm not a fan of the southern heat, but this place and the staff inside made it all worth it.So much so, I had to make this detailed. 11/10
Taco stand is an Athens staple for good reason good food for good prices, you gotta go.
Bartender didn't really seem to want to be there is only thing preventing 5 stars. But reasonable service despite an obvious bad mood. And the food was great as usual. This is fast casual Mexican with a bar. Order at counter, food is usually up in under 5 minutes. Lots of taco and burrito offerings for only a buck or so more than fast food. Truly a bargain. This is the downtown Athens location very near the Arch, and it's open late. A true local gem, taco stand has been feeding hungry students at least since the 80s.
I always enjoy this good. It's Athens.
Food is good and affordable, place is kinda dark and hot during the day but they have a big fan to make it bearable. Check it out, it's worth it.
Great food, the service could have been a bit better
Nice little place for a burrito. Had the mega burrito. It’s grilled and I ordered it with chicken. Nice and crispy outside and very tasty. Good prices. Also has small bar with a good selection of local brews. Tables and booths. 2 big screens and 2 small TVs behind the bar.
The food doesn’t taste soo good . :( too expensive for a quesadilla with cheese , horrible beens and one taco :(
Good food, not from scratch. Steak tacos were filling and black beans and rice was good.
The only reason I gave a star is because the beer was cold. The food was some of the worst Mexican cuisine I've ever encountered. The service was poor. It was an all around bad experience.
AMAZING FOOD, probably best food out I've ever had. Prices were reasonable got a ton of food for about 20 bucks. Looks weird like it's not a sit down, but it is order and take your food and enjoy.
The food is good for what you’re paying. I just wish that the staff would even pretend that they didn’t hate you. I go in regularly and I think that I’ve only had a friendly cashier once in 3.5 years of going.
Been here a few times in the past 5 years when in town for a bike race. The food is good but our experience has been slow food delivery. I'm not sure this is the fault of the front end staff or the kitchen. I tend to believe the kitchen is slower. Anyway, the price is good and if you're willing to hang out then this is an OK place.
One of my favorite late night haunts. Simple menu, tasty food, and decent drink deals. If you're experiencing the Athens night life, be sure to stop here and get some food
The cheese dip is the best! I've loved this place for years! GO DAWGS!
Most importantly, the food is decent, it's priced pretty reasonably too. The service however is lacking, most of the servers we've had have seemed less than enthusiastic to take our order. A few times tacos have come soaked in sauce and lukewarm which isn't great. The decor, seating and entertainment are pretty on point which is nice if you're eating in. Definitely hit this place up for a takeout burrito but don't expect high class dining.
Customer service is bad. The only nice one there is the girl. The two men are very rude, try to upcharge you for things you didn’t ask for. They also messed up the orders and instead of fixing them they charged us twice. They literally will give you the wrong thing, and when you go back to say it’s wrong and ask for the correct item, they make you pay for it AGAIN!Also portion sizes are ridiculous. You pay $8-10 for a bowl, and it’s smaller than a kids menu item. Def go somewhere else for tacos and “Mexican” style food.
Really good fresh food. The price is great. Long time establishment in Athens
Great spot in downtown Athens to meet up with friends and have a good meal. One of my fav spots for lunch. Great customer service and good food.
My friends and I stopped by here before going to the Sleep concert at the 40 Watt and we were not disappointed. I got the fried chicken burrito and it was soooooo delicious. The order taker was hilarious: she either was stoned, did not want to be there, or both. Either way, she added to the element of this place. Their bar is minimal, but if you like liquor or beer you should be able to find what you need. All in all, worth a visit and I will come back here again.
Taste of food was great. Tacos could've been warmer. Great atmosphere.
Not recommended as a place to get tacos or Mexican food. The food doesn't taste very good and there are not a lot of topping options.
I’ve lived in Athens for the past 4 years. I’ve always seen Taco Stand but never had the desire to try it. Should’ve stuck with my instincts.... How are you going to charge $3 for a large cheese dip but only include a handful of chips and THEN charge another $2 for more chips???! These types of things infuriate me. The cashier/bartender was also rude as hell! She made fun of a guy when he walked out for asking for a bag for his ToGo order because he was carrying his child.... There’s countless places in Athens that do this type of food 1,000X better! Don’t bother...
Clean place and friendly folks! Food is good and reasonably priced. Can't vouch for the margaritas as I did not partake!
Classic tex mex prepared fresh. Love it
A true Athens institution and one of my favorite restaurants of all time. Everything on the menu is great. Service always friendly and on point.
This is one of the worst places I have been at for Mexican. I ordered a grilled chicken quesadilla with chips and a drink. I had to ask for the chips after the food came out. The quesadilla on the other hand was by far the worst one I have ever had. They loaded it up with so many onions that all I tasted was cheese and onions, I couldn't even taste the grilled chicken (which there also wanst much chicken) the place was empty when I walked in, and now I can see why it is a place for hungover college kids.
I got the fried chicken burrito, and cheese dip with my chips. The cheese dip is what stood out the most. Rather than the normal white queso most Mexican restaurants serve around here, Taco Stands was more of a mixture of cheese, peppers, and spices that made it just spectacular! More like what I would consider "homemade" than that other stuff. Anyways, the fried chicken burrito did not fail to impress, either. All in all, I had a wonderful dining experience today. On a scale of 1-10, the Taco Stand is a major GO!!!
Been around for so long for the simple reason that it is darn good food.
Good food at great prices? Taco stand is where to go.
An Athens classic. This one's in the center of downtown near College Square. Not far from the Multimodal Center.
Pathetic. Please do not waste your time and money going to Taco stand.1) They do not know to explain the menu to new customer. 2) They should learn how to make Mexican. Food.3) The chicken was stinking.Had to through away the food.I will never visit this place again.
